Gabie Plant project Instructions
Take the Green beans and wrap them in a paper towel, saturate the paper towel and place it in a plastic baggie and tape to warm sunny window. Students will witness, plant growth without soil.
To build the plants own green house:
Take a regular clear water bottle and carefully cut the top off.
Take one of your plants in the Dixie cup, water it.
Take the plastic bottle and put it over the Dixie cup.
Place plant under a light or near a window that gets sun.
This creates its own ecosystem using its own recycled energy to grow.
Take the other plant that we gave you and when it begins
To grow and you see the sprouts, show the students how
Watering and giving it sunlight or light daily helps it grow. Then,
put it in a dark cabinet and leave it for a day or two, checking on
it. Once it starts to wilt, show the students that if you do not take
care of your plant it will die. You can then take it out of the cabinet,
water it and it should revive.
You can have your students write a compare and contrast paper on the
Different ways to grow the plants and the results. The different leaves, growth times and rates. They can do a unit of measure by measuring the different growth rates of each plant. They can even go to the library and research their plants and predict their growth rate and appearance. You can implement many different assignments with this experiment that covers your grade levels standards.
